Devotion (2022)

It showed up on Paramount+ recently and I had heard some good things about it so it was time to watch.

The story is of a black figure pilot in the Korean conflict and his white friend pilot. As they go through the paces of being pilots, it is clear there is a racial divide.

There really isn't much more to give away in the film. While it was decent, it was very cookie cutter. You could easily take a handful of movies like this and just copy and paste them. It didn't bring anything new to either the piloting or civil rights discussion. It was also very tame which made me make the assertion that it is the Hallmark Channel version of events.

There were some scenes that were decent but overall it was very slow-paced and by the halfway point in the film I felt that nothing of any significance had really happened. I found myself bored for much of the film.

I may sound harsh but it really was just a middle of the road film that I'll forget about. It is based on a true story but even then I felt pretty much nothing for the characters.

I'll say that if you're in the mood for a film that is not deep, you might like this one. Personally, I'd just say to skip it.
