The story follows Wednesday as she goes off to school at the Nevermore Academy after traditional public school did not end up agreeing with her. While there she has to uncover a mystery of why people have been dying off in the surrounding area. The school consists of different groups of "outsiders" including werewolves, vampires, sirens, and more.
Had this show been just about Wednesday and a straight up attempt at comedy, it likely would have failed. However, the use of a mystery made it compelling to watch along to try to figure it out. There were some red herrings here and there, some suspicious folks with motive, and plenty of twists along the way. The mystery plus the gothic plus Wednesday made it more compelling. That and there were a couple of throwbacks to the show. Oh, and the hand that played Thing did a great job as well! He was fun to watch and had as much personality as any of the other characters.
My wife and I enjoyed it and hope for another season. We'd love to see more of the actual Addams family as they were only a small part in the series so far. Catherine Zeta Jones played Morticia and Luis Guzman played Gomez. Apparently these two were more accurate to the original comics of the writer.
To me, I call this a more modern 'Potterverse' type of show that can easily become much more popular. It features many of the same pieces of the Harry Potter universe but without the connection to a complete transphobic in J.K. Rowling.
Yes, I'll recommend this one.
