Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Review

It's been awhile since I did a video game review. I've played through a bunch recently from going through the Resident Evil series one-by-one to going through the three The Last of Us games in rapid succession to prepare for the HBO series next year. But, since Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart finally went on sale on the Playstation store, I knew I had to get back into one of my favorite franchises!

One of the things going for the Ratchet and Clank series is that it remains true to its core. There aren't many differences in gameplay from the first game to this one. The series always includes: a decent story, some great comedy, a range of fun characters, and, most importantly, a wide range of weapons that always adds on to its arsenal. My particular favorite weapon this time around was a lawn sprinkler that would basically make a Chia Pet out of your enemies!

The story in this one shows Clank trying to help Ratchet by rebuilding the Dimensionator so that he may go and find other Lombaxes. Of course, things don't go as planned and Dr. Nefarious gets his hands on it, opening up portals to other dimensions. On the flip side, another Lombax named Rivet and another bot named Kit are introduced. Thing is, there is a mix up and Rivet gets Clank and Ratchet gets Kit. They journey through the dimensions and start working together for a fix and to stop the evil Dr. Nefarious(es).

Although the game was short, it was also beautiful on the PS5. The graphics have gotten to a point to where it feels like you are playing a movie some of the time. There were a few spots things slowed down a bit, due to the sheer amount of things happening on screen, but it wasn't bad enough to make a big hubub about it. The music was also pretty spectacular.

I am actually going through tying up the last two trophies so I can attain a Platinum on this one. I am a completionist on some games and this one had just enough to make it challenging but not enough to make it frustrating.

I'll always recommend these games as they are quick, easy, and fun.
