You Only Live Twice (1967)

The fifth in the James Bond series and the "last" of Sean Connery. OK, not the "last" but the last before Lazenby takes over for a film and then the studio realized the mistake they made.

This one centers on SPECTRE attempting to start a war between the United States and Russia. By controlling the space program, SPECTRE hopes to have the two mix it up. Once again, Bond must infiltrate a secret base and stop the evil forces.

We also get the reveal of the head of SPECTRE in this one, Blowfeld, played by Donald Pleaseance. If you really want to see how live animals work in a film, watch the white Persian cat, especially later in the film. That cat gets FREAKED out! (Also watch for continuity)

This one had a bad long-term choice by putting Sean Connery in Asian makeup to make him look Japanese. They even go so far as to put eye prosthetics on to make his eyes look more Asian. It is the equivalent of black face, IMHO.

The film didn't really do anything new. There was a big battle at the end which was pretty impressive. I also love how there is a giant open pit of piranhas in the bad guy's lair. Hopefully they keep the floor nice and dry so no one slips around it!

Overall it was typical James Bond and didn't really add much to the franchise outside of the reveal of Blowfeld.

I'll still recommend it but it is not one that is super necessary.
