Lot 36 (2022)

The first of the anthology series by Guillermo del Toro was this one. This one starred Tim Blake Nelson and is the first of the set of eight films.

The story focuses on Nelson, who is in a lot of debt, feels the world owes him, and is a Storage Wars kinda guy who purchases storage units in auction. Based on a tip off from the storage unit owner, Nelson picks up a unit and finds some odd things in it, which he goes to have appraised.

While my description is vague, it has to be as giving much more detail would give away important parts of the story.

I got kind of a higher-production quality feel of an old episode of Amazing Stories. That, and it's way darker. (Speaking of darker, does this storage unit company have something against people having more than fifteen seconds of light in the hallways!?). Going back to Amazing Stories, it felt a little rushed but the payoff was solid. With a 45-minute runtime, it's hard to not make it feel rushed.

This was a good introduction to the anthology. I look forward to the rest.

Yes, I'll recommend it.
