The premise is that a group of six people are trapped inside the equivalent of a massive Rubik's Cube. Thing is, the exits from the room sometimes lead to traps that will kill you in horrific ways. This group must work together to try to escape the maze of rooms. Why the Cube even exists is a big question.
There was a clear leader in acting in this one with Nicole DeBoer from Deep Space Nine and The Dead Zone fame. She needs a back brace as she really did all of the heavy lifting in the film. The main guy character, who plays a cop, needed as much help as possible as he was not a very good actor at all.
The concept of this one was interesting since no one, including the viewer, really knows what is going on. There is no known connection between why the players are there. There is no known reason for why the Cube exists. There is no known idea of who created the Cube and for what reason. This mystery is a part of what makes the film successful. The mystery involved with the big picture.
From the beginning the viewer gets and idea of the stakes. For some reason this film kinda reminded me of The Platform (on Netflix). Granted, this one came out well before the other but it had a similar feel. This idea of a self-enclosed environment where people are trapped and at the mercy of the creators, or whomever runs the show.
Overall I enjoyed it. There was a little bit of ambiguity in it but the uniqueness of it compelled me to keep watching. I do find it funny that Nicole DeBoer's character was so critical to the big picture. If she had died, the movie would have pretty much ended.
Yes, I'll recommend this one.
