Leprechaun Returns (2018)

Wrapping up the Leprechaun franchise (for now) with Leprechaun Returns. Miraculously, there are eight films in the franchise and only this and the first one stick to any kind of story on what the lore of the Leprechaun held! I truly believe that if they had kept their mythology in line over the course of the films, it could have been a much stronger franchise.

This one focuses on a girl fraternity at a local college who move into the house from the first film where the Leprechaun had been vanquished by being thrown down a well. Ozzie, from the first film, brings one of the gals to the house and at one point, accidentally looses the Leprechaun once again. As expected, the Leprechaun does his thing.

This one was produced by the SyFy (I still HATE spelling it that way) channel so the level of gore and such was expectedly low. They did the Evil Dead trick and made most gore scenes with green goo, rather than blood. And there was plenty of green goo to go around. They got back to some of the more 'fun' kills with this one. They also borrowed heavily from Army of Darkness here and there.

The writing was still pretty bad and the acting was pretty cringeworthy in places but overall I had fun with this one. It fell right in the middle of the pack for the franchise. I give it extra points for recognizing that, by goodness, there WAS a Leprechaun film before this one! Just to acknowledge it was a step in the right direction.

I'll recommend this one like I do the others. If you want cheese, it's fun. If not, don't bother.
