Bride of Chucky (1998)

Another one down in the marathon. After a 7-year hiatus, Chucky was back and better than ever. This time he gets a companion which really works well for the franchise.

The story is that it is now several years after the events of the Child's Play 3 and Jennifer Tilly plays his old (human) girlfriend who is a bit cuckoo in the head. She decides to try to bring Chucky back using Voodoo for Dummies and it works. He then gets irritated with her and brings her back as a female doll. On a cross country road trip, deaths ensue.

This was a fun one. I put it right up there with the first in the franchise. The decision to continue the story in a way that introduced a new twist worked well for keeping things fresh. This one also had a lot of more well known actors including Jennifer Tilly, John Ritter, and Kathryn Heigl.

One of the fun things in this is that the writers understand that they shouldn't take themselves so seriously so there were some jabs at not only the Chucky franchise, but also others, including Hellraiser and some others. There is also a good balance of comedy in it to where it is not so cheesy it is annoying but just enough to have a laugh here and there. Jennifer Tilly is the perfect voice for the bridge and Brad Dourif brought his A-game again.

Yes, I'll recommend this one. It's as good as the first, if not better.
