Day Shift (2022)

Decided to try this one out today as the trailer looked decent. Thing is, after seeing the film, there are a lot of problems with it. I don't know if the writers or the director really knew which direction they wanted to go with it. At some points it's a vampire film. At others it wants to be a (bad) cover. At others it wants to be Bad Boys. There is no flow...

The story follows Bud, a vampire hunter who kills them to pull their teeth to turn them into cash. For some reason he pretends to be a pool cleaner. Anyhow, he needs money because his ex-wife is planning on selling their house and moving to Florida. To do so he has to join the vampire hunters' union so he can get the cash he needs before a deadline. Really, the story is pretty pointless and we've seen similar ideas many times before.

The 'verse they are in also makes almost no sense. There are multiple types of vampires but the logic behind them is flawed, at best. The motivations for the main vampire are lame, at best. The methods of killing vampires is idiotic, at best. There is just so much wrong with the structure and purpose of the film it seems like it jumps from film to film with no linear protection.

Jamie Foxx did good with his role but it didn't make up for the poorly written story. They throw Snoop Dogg in there, as well, but we don't know much about him when he actually has one of the cooler characters. They just put him in briefly when they felt like it. There is another thing with a new vampire which makes absolutely no sense.

Overall I was just disappointed. Several times during my viewing I just wanted to turn it off.

Obviously, my recommendation is to avoid this one and go watch The Lost Boys again.
