I have said, for years now, that Thor's story arc over the entirety of the MCU films is the strongest. He had seen the most tragedy, had the most growth as a person, and he continues to do so in this film. While there are certainly silly parts, it isn't the focus of the film. I think what happened there is that Thor: Ragnarok changed the tone of the Thor films to include more humor and now people expect it.
The story focuses on Thor coming to his senses and getting back to himself after the events of Ragnarok. He's not quite the same Thor. There are new elements involved in this one but bringing Natalie Portman back as Jane Foster was a good choice, IMHO. It was also weird seeing Christian Bale as the bad guy as I was getting Joker vibes from him. Anyhow, Thor travels around helping people and has to fight a god-killing character with a sword.
This isn't a perfect MCU film, by any means. It is enjoyable and there are some good heartfelt moments in it. It almost seems a little rushed and there are scenes that, while entertaining, don't really move the story forward. The biggest thing to recognize is that they made Thor and Jane's relationship meaningful instead of her just being baggage or the woman in distress. Instead, the reasoning behind the relationship is stronger and makes for a more interesting dynamic.
The Guardians of the Galaxy were pretty much just a trailer tease and were completely unnecessary.
The goats were great!
I'd say that I will recommend this if you are deep into the MCU. There are some great moments. It's not one that will be on a NEED to watch again anytime soon category, but it was enjoyable overall.
