Twister (1996)

Today's blockbuster of the day = Twister. I sorta watched it but the news of the day had me distracted.

This is one of those guilty pleasure films. It's stupid but it's fun stupid. I'm not usually big on natural disaster films because they are usually pretty hokey. This is one exception as the storm chasers are fun to watch.

The story is simple... Storm chasers chasing tornadoes. There is a rival storm chasing team. Tornadoes destroy things. That's about it.

Of course this one has a fun cast with Philip Seymour Hoffman stealing the show. Not an easy task with Bill Paxton (playing Bill) at the helm. It's also fun to see Faraday from LOST in a side role.

It is pretty hokey. Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt just mosey up to tornadoes and outside of a destroyed truck, Bill Paxton gets a small cut above one eye. They are in both the outskirts and middle of tornadoes with tons of debris flying around and nobody gets hurt. An F5 with 300MPH winds and nothing touches them.

The other thing is that the tornadoes have a thirst for humans and will almost always change paths to take out the leads. Yes, tornadoes likely change paths, but every one of them!?

Still, it's a fun film and for 1996, the animation isn't horrible. It's still obvious but it's better than a lot of the bad CGI of the time.

Yes, I'll recommend it but with the stipulation that you turn your brain off for two hours, lest you have a stroke from how silly some things are.
