Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978)

Today's movie of the day = Revenge of the Pink Panther. And so we get to the next to last of Sellers performances as Inspector Clouseau before his untimely death.

As much as I wanted to like this one, even close to a normal amount, it's difficult to do so. The jokes weren't landing, they were redoing old jokes but not nearly as funny, and apparently this one was the beginning of Blake Edwards and Peter Sellers' in-fighting.

There were still some classic moments in it, at the very least. A weird thing is that they decided to completely ignore that they literally obliterated Chief Inspector Dreyfus at the end of the last film and he's back in this one with no explanation. (Of course, they change characters out a lot and tend to ignore any continuity so it's not a change for them.

I'd give you a recap of the story by honestly, it was so all over the place that it made zero sense. Basically, by this point in time they just rely on Sellers slapstick and story be damned. As a matter of fact, if we look at Edwards writing, he does NOT know how to write a mystery.

Sadly, this one was a cash grab and the last one will be a 100% call grab. Again, some jokes with like the sea captain and the Godfather, but there wasn't much originality to the antics.

I will only recommend this one if you are a die hard Sellers fan.

P.S. I am not looking forward to Trail of the Pink Panther.
