Halo Season One Review

I will preface this by stating that my knowledge of Halo is only from the first video game which I played on the PC. I've always said the only reason I'd ever consider an Xbox is for the Halo and Gears of War games. I will say this series does make me interested enough to play the Halo series though.

The series, so far, is not without fault but I enjoyed it enough to hope they get greenlit for season two. Pablo Schreiber does a pretty good job as Master Chief. (Of course, I know him at Porn-stache from Orange is the New Black).

The story follows the backstory to how Master Chief came around. It centers on him, Dr. Halsey, and Cortana. It also loosely centers on three other Spartans. I actually liked this storyline for Kai.

Now, the other storyline was completely useless and I think the writers realized this about mid-season. It focuses on a girl named Kwan who wants to reclaim her home city from some generic baddie. Really, there is zero purpose for this storyline other than Master Chief rescuing her in the first episode. Her story could have been removed entirely and it wouldn't have mattered one bit to the main storyline.

I enjoyed the season. Sure, it got a bit long in tooth at times but I am vested enough to continue. I will say they saved their budget for the final episode of the season. Speaking of, that is one of my main complaints, the lack of action that occurs until that final episode. I was hoping for more battles or even technology but it is pretty Spartan (pun intended).

Yes, I'll recommend it. It's a good distraction. It's not a 100% have to rush to watch but I was looking forward to new episodes each week.
