Darkman (1990)

Today's movie of the day = Darkman. Another Sam Raimi film, both written and directed by him. This one has Liam Neeson (nominated for an Academy Award), Frances McDormand (four time Academy Award winner), and Larry Drake (two time Emmy winner). It also has the usual cameos by Ted Raimi and Bruce Campbell as well as the Oldsmobile Delta.

The story is a standard 80s action film one. There is a bad guy posing as a good guy who bankrolls a really bad guy. Real good guy gets caught in the crossfire and is believed to be dead but comes back and enacts his revenge one by one. It's like every 80s and 90s action film but with a Sam Raimi look and feel to it.

This one also had a score by Danny Elfman. Thing is, he totally phoned it in as it is the Batman soundtrack with a few small changes. Really, it feels like one of the songs used in Batman for one of the action sequences!

It is fun to see this one again as it's been FAR too long since I've last seen it. I pick on the generic plot but there is some traditional Raimi flair which makes it more fun. I remember enjoying this one back when and it's still fun now.

Yes, I'll recommend this as a throwback to the 'every' film. It gives a good snapshot of the times.
