Road Games (1981)

Today's movie of the day = Road Games (1981). Another in my Australian marathon even though the two main stars are American.

This one was pretty decent. It's a thriller/suspense film that keeps you guessing. My biggest complaint with it was the ambiguous ending. It kinda leaves you determining the outcome on your own. I wanted the film to go one direction but it was not crystal clear if that was the case or not.

The film is 95% Stacy Keach who, if you saw him, you know who he is. He did a great job carrying the film and left the viewer never quite sure of his sanity. Originally this was meant for Sean Connery to be the lead in, but he was too expensive. Jamie Lee Curtis is only in it for about ten minutes, at most.

The story follows a trucker and his dingo as they carry a load of meat across Australia. The story going on outside of this is that there is a serial killer on the loose chopping up women that have been picked up hitchhiking.

The thing about Keach's performance is that he is intelligent but also isolated as he drives cross country. He quotes poetry, has conversations with his dingo, and makes up fun stories about those he passes on the road.

They did a good job keeping you guessing on this one. I can't say much more than that without spoiling it.

I liked it. It was interesting enough to keep me watching and had some good elements to it. That being said, yes, I'll recommend it.
