After Life Series Review

After Life - Series Review

We slow burned through the final season (three) so we could enjoy it.

The series had ups and downs. Season one was fantastic, season two was pretty good, season three was not as good but ended with a solid conclusion.

The story is about a guy named Tony (played by Ricky Gervais) who is in s state of deep depression due to the love of his life, Lisa, passing away from cancer. The seasons go through some of the states of grief he experiences as he tries to find a reason to continue on.

Over the journey he meets a range of characters. He works with some, meets new ones, and shares some odd experiences. Over it he makes a feeble attempt to connect with humanity.

It's hard not to compare this to Derek, Gervais's other show on Netflix. It has a lot of the same actors and one even plays pretty much the same character. The thing for me is, Derek nailed it all three seasons and I've seen it twice. This one there are parts I'd edit out to make it better. There is one character, in particular, who has a redemption arc in Derek but in this one he brings down the show.

My overall feeling for this show is that it is worth it. There is some great introspection about death, life, humanity, and dogs throughout. The final episode has some great philosophies that were well thought out. Season three they kinda dropped the ball but there are some good bits here and there.

My final analysis is that the series is worth a viewing, even with the fall in season three. I might also recommend Derek as I'm far more vested in that one.

Yes, I'll recommend this series.
