The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)

Today's second movie of the day = The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Rook hadn't seen this one before (one of the few Disney movies he hadn't) so it was time to introduce him to it.

I always find it odd that this one doesn't get as much Disney love. It seems like it's been swept under the rug. It came at the tail end of the greatness with Pocahontas coming right before it (from the hand-drawn studio). It also immediately followed the great success of Toy Story which forever changed how animated movies were made.

Maybe it was because this was 'only' Alan Menken since Howard Ashman had passed five years before. Maybe it was because the story was darker than other Disney films. Who knows?

I have always enjoyed it, however. It has it's moments and Frolo is a solid bad guy. I showed it to Rook since he's been interested in Notre Dame since the fire a couple of years ago. It came up in conversation again recently so I thought it would be good to show him.

I still recommend this one. It is different than that others but to judge it based upon what came before is unfair.
