Becky (2020)

Today's movie of the day = Becky. It's one of those ones I bought earlier this year and didn't know much about. The bigger makes associated with it are Joel McHale and Kevin James. Keep in mind, however, Kevin James plays a very different character than usual.

I'm just going to come out and say it, this one should be titled Home Alone 5: Stuff Just Got Real. There is an almost similar feel in which a young kid, in defending themself against bad guys, sets traps and all of that. Then the bad guys pursue and hijinks occur (which are a lot more dangerous than in Home Alone).

This is a different take on this type of film and it keeps you guessing. I felt a couple of characters were just... there, and unnecessary, but it was only a minor gripe of mine.

While this film wasn't super deep, it did have its moments. The main girl character was decent in her role. Kevin James was a surprise as a bad guy as the way the film had him, with his big beard and range of tattoos, did actually make him fairly menacing (at first).

Don't go looking too hard for the motivations of the characters, as you won't get an answer, but for a film about a young teen girl kicking bad guy booty, this one worked.

Yes, I'll recommend it for a good popcorn film. If you don't think too hard about it, you'll enjoy it.
