The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)

Today's movie of the day = The Creature from the Black Lagoon. One of the solid Universal titles. They attempt to give the Creature a backstory that at least makes some sense. One of the things I find almost humorous about all of these films is that the first instinct in each and every one is to kill the monsters. Had they left the Creature alone he may just have left everyone alone. Getting a spear in the side might just make any creature cranky! :) This one had the best looking female of all of the Universal films so far. This is evident from the fact that the Creature just wanted to get his groove on with her! The amusing thing is, however, how the men treat her. She's a scientist but the men treat her like an idiot. For example, she swings about fifty yards from the boat but the captain yells to get that she's too far out and then proceeds to bring the boat to her. One thing I found interesting is that the Creature doesn't even get billing in the credits! Another thing is thinking about the mobility of the suit and how difficult it must have been to not only move, but move underwater. There were some crazy underwater scenes that looked super dangerous. Yes, I will recommend this one as a fun classic.
