Frankenstein (1931)

Today's movie of the day = Frankenstein. I have seen this one a few times before but noticed a few things this time around. First, The Monster is only in the film for about fifteen minutes, at most. This seems a shame to me as Boris Karloff did a great job with him. Another thing I noticed is how unsafe the sets and filming were! The main staircase in the castle looked particularly unsafe yet they had people going up and down it all of the time. Then there is a thirty foot long rope Fritz climbed. Another scene at the end has Frankenstein fighting the monster and he literally rolls over an active torch! OSHA must not have been around back then! Fun to see Dracula and Frankenstein back-to-back as they had two of the same actors. Renfield (Dracula) and Fritz (Frankenstein) as well as Van Helsing (Dracula) and the professor (Frankenstein). It looks like the later actor is also in The Mummy. Overall it is still an entertaining film but with that short amount of time The Monster is in it, it makes me wish there was more of him. I also struggle separating Young Frankenstein with this. :D As with the previous two films, I will recommend it but mainly as a cinemaphile type of thing. It makes you put it in context of 90 years ago to see how it might have affected movie goers.
