Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile (2022)

Decided to go a little less serious in the film choice for the family so we went with Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile (LLC). This was always a favorite book series for my son so we had to give the film a chance, especially since it's been getting decent reviews.

The story is, of course, about Lyle the Crocodile in his house on 88th street in Manhattan. He and his "family", the Primms live together. There is also his magician and performer friend, Hector, who hopes to work with Lyle and become rich doing so.

Javier Bardem plays Hector and did a pretty good job at it. They voice of Lyle is some pop star, Shawn Mendes, who I know his name but couldn't tell you one song he sings.

For some reason they made it to where Lyle could sing but not talk, which was an odd choice. The music was written by the folks who did the music for The Greatest Showman but where that one gets stuck in my head, this one left me underwhelmed.

The other thing was that there were so many gaping holes in the story that it felt discombobulated. Just dumb choices by characters for no real apparent reason. I mean, it is a translation of a children's book so filling in the gaps we necessary but it didn't feel like things were thought out.

P.S. the CGI on the animals that weren't Lyle was really bad.

Overall, it still had some fun moments. It was nice to see Lyle on the big screen. I just wish there was a better story behind it as the children's books are more fun.

I'll give it a half-hearted recommendation.
