Dr. No (1962)

Starting a James Bond franchise marathon with the first one, Dr. No. Sean Connery has always been my favorite so these first several are going to be the most fun.

This one is about Dr. No, an evil genius attempting to utilize radioactivity to interfere with United States missile and rocket launches. James Bond must get to the secret facility and stop Dr. No from his nefarious plans. Oh, and he must bed every female he meets along the way.

Sean Connery was at his height back here. He has the power to get any woman to drop their panties with a wink and a nod. Of course, looking at it from a viewpoint of 2022, there are some cringeworthy moments including the equivalent of him forcing himself on an enemy woman. If the #MeToo movement was alive back then, Bond would have been canceled after one film.

Ursula Andress looked great in this film as well. Most of her screen time was her in a bikini. She had a story attached to her but it's clear she was there for the eye candy.

The story didn't really matter too much. Bad guy, evil lair, stop the plans. There wasn't much more depth to it.

Overall, it's still entertaining James Bond as long as we just let it be Bond and not compare it to modern day standards.

Yes, I'll recommend it if anything for nothing more than the introduction of the character and the iconic scene of Andress coming out of the water in her white bikini.
