Murder Mystery 2 (2023)

I looked back at my previous rating for Murder Mystery and apparently I wasn't as much of a fan as I remember. Thankfully, this second one in the franchise was pretty funny. The story continues following Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston as they give up their jobs and become (failed) detectives. When they receive an invite from the Maharajah to his wedding, all expenses paid, they fly away for a weekend of fun. And, instead of murder, this time they are trying to catch a kidnapper. Hijinks, and a body count, ensue. I might not have thought highly of the first one but I did get some good belly laughs from this one. It just has charm and the Sandler/Aniston relationship pays off like it does in several of their films together. It almost felt like Sandler was returning to form from the Billy Madison, Waterboy, Happy Gilmore days. The story is silly but there were some fun things. A Man Called Otto (2023)

It's Tom Hanks. Do I really need more of a reason to watch a film? The story is about A Man Called Otto. He's old. He's grumpy. He's a HOA guy without and HOA. Neighbors move in across the street. He remains grumpy. He is trying to kill himself (no spoilers on why). As the film progresses, he finds himself more capable of managing things than he had. My review is kinda silly but the core is that he is a grump who wants to kill himself and never seems to manage. There are flashbacks to his life that give more clarity. The neighbors start becoming friends more than strangers. There is a cat. I simplify but don't want to give away too much. One fun thing was that Tom Hank's son, Truman, plays the role of Tom Hanks as a younger version of himself so it works. Tom does great, as always. It's weird seeing him in a permanently grumpy mode. The Dish (2000)

Today's movie of the day = The Dish. I think this one was produced in the United States but it is about an Australian experience. It stars Sam Neill and Patrick Warburton. The film is based on a true story about a satellite dish located in Australia and the group of men who helped broadcast the Apollo 11 mom landing in July of 1969. NASA worked with the Australians to make sure the broadcast went through. The other satellite dish was in the northern hemisphere. Along the way there are some things that challenge the broadcast but I don't want to talk about them here as it would give away too much. I always love to get Lisa's goat and tell her that the moon landing never happened and it was produced. (No, I don't believe this but it's fun to rile her up sometimes).
