Road Trip from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Salt Lake City, Utah and Back

Things I learned about my car…so far… So, to break in my new electric car, the Chevy Bolt EUV, I did a 1300-mile roundtrip road trip to Salt Lake City from Colorado Springs. Here are some things I learned along the way. Before the trip I set my battery to be able to charge to 100% which I only completely charged once during the whole trip. It is back to a preset 80% charge now that I am home. My car is a magnet for nails and screws. The first week I had the car I got a nail in my sidewall, requiring the purchase of a completely new tire. Then, on the trip, the first night I was there I got a screw directly in the tire. I had roadside assistance come out to repair it and all seemed well. Then the next morning, it was low pressure again, so I took it to a tire shop in Utah which, very thankfully, was able to repair it and did so for free. Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2022)

I went into this one with the dread of A24 but with the high praise of fellow cinephiles. It's the first A24 family film. The story follows Marcel the Shell and his grandmother who live in an AirBnB. When s guest comes and starts filming then for YouTube videos, Marcel's life changes. The guy doing the videos and Marcel sin become friends as they work together towards a common goal. This film was stop motion and, if I remember correctly, done by two people over the course of a couple/few years (I may be wrong). It was up for an Academy Award for animation but Guillermo del Toro beat it for Pinocchio. (Which I believe was the right call). Overall, this one had some heartwarming story and cute characters. I didn't get as connected as I would have hoped but it was fun to watch. I'll likely watch it again down the road. Yes, against my previous bias against A24, I'll still recommend this one for the whole family.

The Other Side of the Door (2016)

Tried this one out on a recommendation today. It stars Sarah Wayne Callies from Prison Break and Walking Dead fame. The story is about a mother who loses her young son in an automobile accident but suffers from deep depression because of it. So much so that she kinda loses touch with reality. Her house maid tells her of a place to go to be able to speak to him again but that she can never open the door under any circumstances. I will say she's a white, American lady in India so that rule apparently didn't imply and things start going south. I call this one 'Pet Sematary: India'. It wasn't a bad film, but it is pretty much the same film as Pet Sematary just in a different locale. The story was average. I will give some kudos to the imagery, however, as the were some solid visual effects in some spots. There is some demon lady who was pretty creepy.
